About Us

Point of Injury Group helps veterans build stronger VA disability claims through evidence-based strategy and human case development. No overpriced claim mills. No AI-generated reports that risk denial—just experienced professionals focused on helping veterans secure the benefits they earned.

Joshua Sterner, Founder

Joshua Sterner is the founder of Point of Injury Group (PoiG), a veteran-focused consulting firm dedicated to helping service members properly develop and present their VA disability claims.

Joshua currently serves as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D) and has deployed in support of operations in Iraq and Syria. Through years of military service and working closely with other veterans, he developed a deep understanding of how service-related injuries occur, how they evolve over time, and how they should be properly documented.

Throughout his career, Joshua has trained in advanced trauma care, combat casualty response, and special operations environments where precision, documentation, and accountability are critical. That experience shaped the way he approaches VA claims today—focusing on evidence, strategy, and accuracy rather than generic templates or automated reports.

He founded Point of Injury Group after seeing too many veterans either struggle through the VA system alone or pay excessive fees to companies that treat claims as a high-volume process. His goal was to build a firm that approaches each case individually and ensures veterans work with real people who understand both military service and the VA claims process.

Through PoiG, Joshua works directly with veterans to help them build stronger, well-supported claims so they can receive the benefits they earned through their service.

Christian Washington, Director of Case Management

Christian Washington serves as the Director of Case Management at Point of Injury Group (PoiG), where he oversees case development, veteran support, and the strategic coordination of claim documentation. His role focuses on ensuring that every veteran working with PoiG receives structured, evidence-driven claim development and consistent guidance throughout the VA process.

Christian is a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran with over 16 years of experience operating in complex defense and intelligence environments alongside U.S. government agencies. Beginning his career as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D) and later serving as a CW2 Assistant Detachment Commander, he developed a reputation for disciplined leadership, mission-focused problem solving, and accountability in high-pressure operational environments.

That same approach now guides his work with veterans at PoiG. Christian helps ensure that claims are developed with the same attention to detail and operational planning that defined his military service—focusing on documentation, accuracy, and clear strategy to help veterans properly present their cases.

He holds an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. Christian is also a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP), Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Instructor, a graduate of the United States Army Ranger School, and Special Forces qualified.

At PoiG, Christian’s leadership helps ensure that every case is approached with professionalism, structure, and a deep understanding of the veteran experience.

Justin Schafer, PA-C

Justin Schafer brings over 21 years of experience within the U.S. Army Special Forces community, beginning his career as an 18D Special Forces Medical Sergeant with 3rd Special Forces Group and culminating as an Aeromedical Physician Assistant with 1st Special Forces Group. His background reflects a career spent in high-consequence environments where precision, accountability, and clinical competence directly impacted outcomes.

Justin transitioned into the Physician Assistant role with a clear purpose—ensuring those under his care were never let down. Over time, that mission expanded beyond active service. He has seen firsthand how incomplete or poorly executed medical documentation can negatively affect veterans long after they leave the military. That experience drives his current focus: delivering accurate, thorough, and defensible medical evaluations that stand up within the VA system.

With a deep understanding of both clinical standards and VA documentation requirements, Justin plays a critical role in bridging the gap between medical evidence and successful claim development. His approach is detail-oriented, objective, and built on years of real-world operational medicine.

Based in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Justin is a husband to a firefighter/paramedic and a father of four. Outside of his professional work, he trains in MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu when time and recovery allow. He is also a recipient of the Silver Star.
